About Ph.D.

A doctorate or Ph.D. is the highest level of educational degree that can be conferred to students. It is the most prestigious doctorate that is pursued after obtaining a master’s degree (MA/ M.Com/ MSc/ MBA/ MPhil/ PGDM/ PGPM). The Ph.D. is a research-based degree that awards great titles and acknowledges a person’s substantial contribution to the field of research. A Ph.D. holder is a self-dependent researcher with vast knowledge of the chosen topic of study and an expert with a wide range of transferable skills.

Because of the nature of a Ph.D., the student must be responsible for their learning. Unlike traditional degrees, you will have complete control over your project and progress. Individual research is the most important aspect of a Ph.D.

While your supervisor may be able to steer you on the proper path, it is your responsibility to complete the work and analyse the results. Since the success of your Ph.D. will be nearly entirely dependent on you, you will need to learn to prioritize tasks and justify your choices. Submit your research thesis to your university/college at the end of the semester. To get a Ph.D., you must successfully defend your Ph.D. thesis proposal.

Candidates who have completed admission tests such as the UGC NET, GATE, JEST, and others are regularly offered fellowships while completing a Ph.D. program. Furthermore, institutes such as IGNOU and Delhi University (DU) offer fellowships to Ph.D. students enrolling full-time. The Ph.D. degree is the pinnacle of academic achievement, opening the way for a successful career.

Eligibility

• A full-time bachelor’s degree.
• A full-time master’s degree with at least 55% marks.
• The cut-off for SC/ST and OBCs is 50%.
• University/College mandated or national-level entrance examination.
• For a part-time Ph.D., a NOC (No Objection Certificate) is obtained from the educational institute or organization of employment.
• Some colleges/universities require relevant job experience.

Duration

Ph.D. programmes typically last three to four years full-time or five to six years part-time. However, it is based upon your qualifications and the curriculum you select.
